Phoenix has rapidly evolved into a central player in the global semiconductor industry, marked by hosting significant events and attracting substantial investments.
Hosting SEMICON West
In October 2025, the Phoenix Convention Center welcomed SEMICON West, North America’s premier microelectronics exhibition, for the first time. This event, traditionally held in San Francisco, drew an estimated 33% more attendees than the previous year, with over 1,500 booths and 860 exhibiting companies. The decision to relocate underscores Phoenix’s growing prominence in the semiconductor sector. Mayor Kate Gallego highlighted the city’s role in advanced manufacturing, stating, “This global gathering of semiconductor leaders showcases the incredible momentum building in our city and the critical role we play in the future of advanced manufacturing.”
Significant Investments and Economic Impact
Since 2020, over 60 chip companies have expanded or relocated to Arizona, resulting in a $205 billion investment. This influx has not only bolstered the local economy but also positioned Phoenix as a key player in the global semiconductor supply chain. The arrival of SEMICON West is projected to generate nearly $10 million in direct spending and more than 16,000 room nights, delivering a significant economic impact to downtown Phoenix.
Future Prospects
Looking ahead, Phoenix is set to host SEMICON West again in 2027 and 2029, alternating with San Francisco in even years. This recurring event is expected to further solidify the city’s status as a global semiconductor hub. Additionally, the Greater Phoenix Economic Council continues to foster international relationships, ensuring sustained growth and innovation in the sector.
Phoenix’s strategic initiatives and investments have undeniably positioned the city as a pivotal hub in the global semiconductor industry, promising continued economic growth and technological advancement.
